Investments

A 50% deposit and your signed contract are required to reserve your place on our calendar. The deposit is non-refundable within 30 days of the event. The remaining fee is due 1 day before the event.
We require a minimum of 1 hour for booking.
Special music requests (songs that are not already included in our repertoire list) will be honored up to 3 weeks before the event. Requests outside of the 1 included request are charged at $50 each.
We accept Zelle, Venmo, PayPal or Cash for payment.

Logistics

We will arrive at the event at least 15 minutes prior to the agreed-upon start time.
Please provide 4 chairs for the group at the venue.
Shade and adequate weather protection is required in order to protect our instruments and players. The players will not play in direct sunlight or in any kind of weather (rain, snow, sleet, etc).
We do not play outside in temperatures lower than 58 degrees Farenheit or over 100 degrees Farenheit.
Playing time is the entire time on premisis once we begin playing. This includes time not playing during ceremonies or speeches. Any playing over the agreed-upon end time will need to be paid within 1 day after the event.
We will need approximately a 10′ x 10′ area in which to play.
Our players will arrive to play dressed in performance black (black tie/white or black shirt for men & all black for women).
We will need someone (a friend, family member, or an event planner) to give us cues as to when to play if our playing is intermittent (e.g., at a wedding ceremony).

Here are some items to consider when entering your event details:

Do you want a break in the music at any point during the event? This could be things like speeches, cake cutting, awards ceremony, etc.
Are you anticipating having the group move between event segments? Examples would be one location for a wedding ceremony or cocktails and then a different location for a reception or dinner.
Do you want any specific songs played at specific times? Check out our repertoire lists to the left of this link on the contract details form page.
- Wedding ceremony segments to consider:
  - Prelude – generally played 15-30 minutes before the ceremony begins
  - Processional – This is when the party/bride/groom/officiant/parents walk down the aisle BEFORE anyone is married.
  - Recessional – This is after the ceremony is complete when people walk back up the aisle to go to the next wedding segment (cocktails, dinner, reception, etc.)
  - During ceremony music – Things like ring warmings, foot washings, etc.
  - Postlude – transition music as people are moving from a ceremony to the next segment (usually 3-15 min)
  - Cocktail Hour
  - Dinner
  - Reception
  - First Dance
  - Cake Cutting
  - Couple Exit
- Typical fundraiser or corporate party segments to consider
  - MVP Entrances
  - Before dinner song choices
  - During slideshows
  - During awards

If you need more than one special request those are available at only $50 each (or if a special arrangement needs to be made the cost will be for the time of the arranger – usually around $150).

They are committed to fulfilling your musical wishes, gladly accepting requests. If they don’t already have the sheet music, they will arrange it specifically for you.

Classically trained, the Black & White String Quartet brings over a decade of experience to every performance. Formed in 2002 at Utah State University while pursuing their undergraduate degrees in music performance, they have been playing together ever since. Each musician excels in their own niche and is highly sought after for their specialties, from coaching high school chamber music groups and teaching young children to recording in film studios and performing with the Utah Symphony. Their performances have spanned across Utah, California, Texas, Colorado, Ohio, Michigan, New York, and Connecticut. Internationally, their careers have taken them to Canada, Germany, Austria, England, France, Italy, and China.

Frequently Asked Questions

CAN I PICK THE MUSIC OR DO I HAVE TO USE YOUR SET LISTS?

Absolutely! We have sample set lists to give your spark some ideas, but we will consult with you on what music you’d like to have performed. We take requests, so if you want something we don’t have, we’ll make an arrangement for our group.

WILL YOUR QUARTET BE AT MY REHEARSAL?

If you prefer one of the quartet members to attend your rehearsal, we’re happy to arrange that for an additional fee. However, one of the benefits of hiring us is that we have performed at hundreds of weddings and events, so we are comfortable at coordinating the timing of the music with your wedding planner and/or your officiant on the day of the event.

DO I HAVE TO HIRE THE ENTIRE QUARTET OR CAN I JUST HIRE A SOLOIST OR A DUET?

We love playing as a full quartet, however, we understand that not everyone wants to hire the entire group. If you prefer to hire only one or two of us, we can give you a quote and work with you on what music options are going to work the best with one or two performers.

HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE?

Our fees are comparable to other professional quartets in the area. Send us an email or fill out the contact form on our website so we can send you our packages and pricing options. We are also able to work outside of the scope of our popular packages and can give you an exact quote once we get the full details of our event, we are based in Utah and do not charge travel fees for events taking place within a 1 hour drive of Salt Lake County. If your event is further away than 1 hour, a travel fee will apply and is $200/hour of driving – calculated roundtrip based on Google Maps time estimate.

WHAT IS YOUR BOOKING PROCESS AND CANCELLATION POLICY?

Once we confirm the details of your event, we’ll send you a contract and arrange a 50% non-refundable deposit inside of 30 days before your event. This ensures we do not book anything else that might conflict with your event. The remainder of the payment is due 1 day prior to your event. If anything changes and you need to cancel after the full fee has been paid, we will refund you all but the 50% deposit.

WHAT TYPES OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?

We accept Venmo, PayPal*, and cash. We do not generally accept checks.
